Definition of Essay
The definition of an essay is a short piece of writing that expresses information as well as the writer's feelings, thoughts and opinions about the nature of the topic.

Characteristics of a good essay

1. Unity
The most important character of writing an essay must be unity. The main subject of the essay to be treated with different views. All the ideas about the main theme must be related to each other and to the main topic.

2. Order
All the related ideas about the main theme to be well organized and to be treated according to its needs not consist of haphazard reflections to put down anywhere. A good essay is known by its well organized ideas.

3. Brevity
Normal essay should not be long. The limit should be about three hundreds words but there is no strick rules for the length of essay. Essay has also no
restrictions on the paragraphs because one essay may have more than one paragraphs.

4. Style of Essay
The style of an essay must be dignified and literacy.
The language and sentences constructions should be simple, direct and natural. A writer Cobbet who is known for his writing style of clearness, simplicity and directness said "If you clearly understand all about your matter, you will never want thoughts and thoughts instantly becomes words".

5. Personal Touch
An essay should reveal the personal feelings and opinions of the writer which has its own beauty in the essay than the personal touch should not be lost otherwise the essay will look colorless and devoid of individuality. So for a good writing of essay, the writer should not be afraid to express his opinions and views in the essay.
